The first edition of La Monegrina is along one of the most arid areas of Spain, which is hit by long days of sun and wind and surrounded by lonesome towns. A 60 km track, achievable for any cyclo-tourist, with only one mountain pass (Alcubierre, 610 meters above sea level) and 580m D+ in total.

The landscape of Monegros is of a pure and particular beauty, with a unique ecosystem in Europe, more typical of the eastern steppes. It is also one of the most unpopulated areas of the national territory, where the main economic activity of its people is irrigated agriculture.

One of the highlights of the event will be the aid station up at the Alcubierre Pass, where we will visit some trenches from the Spanish civil war, including the Trench of Orwell. This is where the great English writer George Orwell was assigned back in 1937, when he was serving for the republicans to fight against fascism in Spain. In his book Homenage to Catalonia he wrote about his days at this war front.
